Qualifying Exam (face-to-face, remote or hybrid)
The qualifying exam must be requested within 15 months (Master’s) or 24 months (Doctorate) and the maximum deadline is 16 (sixteen) months (Master’s) and 26 (twenty-six) months (Doctorate), starting from the student’s entry into the course (check the month and year of entry into the PPGH – UFC on their academic transcript).
The Qualification Report must include, in the case of the Master’s Degree, at least one structured chapter and the general proposal for the Dissertation, and, in the case of the Doctorate, at least two structured chapters and the general proposal for the Thesis.
It is a condition for taking the dissertation or thesis Qualifying Exam:
To have taken all the compulsory subjects, as established in the Student Flowchart.
To schedule the dissertation or thesis Qualifying Exam:
The student must send to the Secretariat’s e-mail address (pghist@ufc.br) with the following data: title of dissertation or thesis project, abstract, keywords and number of pages and if there is a member from outside the UFC, send full name, cpf, email and institution where they teach.
The student must then complete and sign the Dissertation or Thesis Qualification Request form and send it only to the Secretariat’s e-mail address (pghist@ufc.br), stating whether the qualification will be face-to-face, remote or hybrid;
ATTENTION: The formatting of the dissertation or thesis should follow the Federal University of Ceará’s Guide to Standardizing Academic Work. The University Library also has some templates available on its website that can help with formatting.
The judging committee for the Qualifying Exam will be made up of at least 3 (three) members with a doctorate.
The assessment of the qualifying exam will be expressed by one of the following concepts: Pass or Fail. In both cases, the board may include comments in the Qualifying Exam Minutes.
ATTENTION: students who fail the Qualifying Exam will be entitled to a new opportunity within a maximum of 3 (three) months, counting from the deadline provided for in item IV of art. 2 or in item IV of art. 3 of the Internal Regulations of the PPGH – UFC.
